Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania, often abbreviated LHU, is a state university in Lock Haven, which is the county seat of Clinton County, situated in the US state of Pennsylvania, standing near the confluence of the West Branch Susquehanna River and Bald Eagle Creek. During the 2000 census, Lock Haven's population was approximated at a number of little over 9000 inhabitants.
LHU was founded in 1870, first starting as Central State Normal School, which became State Teacher's College, by 1927, 33 years later, changing to Lock Haven State College, the current name being adopted in 1983, when the university joined the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education.
LHU's athletic teams call themselves the Bald Eagles, and they participate in NCAA Division II's PSAC for most sports in which they compete.
